Superbowl Recipe Series: Cookie Dough Dip and Party Tips

For my last post in this Superbowl Blog Series, I thought I would give you guys a dessert recipe (that’s great for sharing!) and talk about some tips for Superbowl Sunday.


Now I know this kind of thing has been done- whether it’s Superbowl Sunday, holiday parties or vacations, we all see the “tips for survival” posts. But that doesn’t mean it’s not great to have a reminder- and I don’t think this will be your typical “tips” post. I highly encourage you to do what feels good, however keep in mind that if you have a goal you need to prioritize appropriately!


SUPERBOWL SUNDAY DOS:


Get some movement in! You’re about to go sit on your butt for multiple hours watching other really fit people showcase their skills. Why not start the day with a walk, yoga session, crossfit class, etc to get started off on the right foot!

Hydrate. This is obviously just a good general rule, but knowing you might partake in a couple game day beers or a cocktail later, try to front load the beginning of your day with some good old fashioned aqua.

Focus on protein and veggies to start your day. You will likely be faced with lots of carb and fat heavy entrees, dips, and desserts at game time, so strive for some balance in the morning. My pick? A three egg omelette with some diced veggies and a side of protein oats.

Bring something healthy (if you want). This is an age old tip and it all comes down to thinking ahead- if you bring something you know offers some sort of nutritional value, you know you’ll have the option for a more balanced plate.


SUPERBOWL SUNDAY DON’TS:


Call it a cheat day. This only promotes the idea of binging all day, rather than going into the day with a healthy and balanced perspective. Besides, who exactly are you cheating on?

Totally avoid all of the cheese, bread, sweets, etc. Again- total avoidance usually results in you hitting a wall, breaking down and loading up on even more than you probably would have in the first place. Aim to try a few fun items and not completely restrict. Along the same lines- don’t be that person that eats NOTHING at the party- chances are you’ll be starving by the end.

Fast all day in anticipation. Notice a theme here? All or nothing ain’t it, sis.


On a more fun note, this cookie dough dip might not scream “Superbowl” but I promise it has been a hit at any party I’ve taken it to. Fun fact: I served this at a holiday party and not a single person guessed it was made of chickpeas- I call that a #sneakydietitianmove. Try it out, test your friends, and let me know if anyone could guess the ingredients!




Chickpea Cookie Dough:


INGREDIENTS:


1 can chickpeas, drained

3 T natural peanut butter

⅛ tsp salt

⅛ tsp baking soda

2 T rolled oats

2 tsp vanilla extract

¼ to ⅓ cup milk of choice

1 T maple syrup

⅓ cup mini chocolate chips

For Dipping:

Apples

Graham Crackers


INSTRUCTIONS:


1. Put all of the ingredients except for the chocolate chips in a food processor and blend until smooth.

2. Start with ¼ cup of milk and add as needed.

3. Mix the chocolate chips in at the end.

4. Slice apple or use graham crackers for dipping!
